Straight-leg trousers with clean front and back; comfort supplied by short elastic sections at the side waist only. Buttoned fly avoids bulky drawcord knots. Leg opening allows air to move while shielding skin. Cut accommodates stride and climbing steps when surfaces are wet. In hot cities they serve as light day trousers; in humid interiors they pair with open-neck shirts. Fabric choice favours compact cottons that dry quickly. Details are minimised to avoid trapping moisture. Original use addressed French Guiana heat where trousers needed coverage without retaining sweat or rain.
Equatorial heat and humidity shaped daily dress. Frequent showers and saturated air kept garments damp unless weaves were light and seams few. Trails and settlement paths required trousers that permitted movement while limiting skin exposure to insects. Quick-drying cottons and simple waist treatments became practical responses, contrasting with lined or heavy European tailoring unsuited to these conditions.

100%ᴾᵁᴿᴱ Southern-Indian COTTON (as in the 𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 heritage sample, made from fabric woven before 1947 in then British-India ) • from fields SUSTAINABLY growing cotton since at least 35AD (according to Roman Empire trade records) • woven as in the 𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 HERRINGBONE-THICK weave (a heavier version of the ancient herringbone weave, developed for greater durability and protection), to P.Le Moult designs in nearby villages by English-speaking unionized craftspeople, descendants of the 𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 weavers (in a state that has been alternating between soft-Left and hard-Left coalitions since 1957...)
