Straight shorts with adjustable waist and clean hems. Designed for ventilation and ease. Today they are practical for hot weather. In summer at Jaulhac, Eugène Le Moult’s country house, shorts were used informally in gardens before evening gatherings.

The grounds at Jaulhac provided relaxed space in contrast to occupied Paris. Daytime walks and outdoor work preceded evening salons. Guests included natural scientists and writers, who enjoyed both rural informality and cultivated conversation.
